Careers at

You’re Brilliant. We’re Hiring.

Make the mundane magical – that’s our mantra. Sunshine is focused on taking sophisticated technology and quietly solving everyday problems. If you are passionate about building technologies to help consumers navigate the practical, we would love to meet you!

Sunshine Contacts and Sunshine Birthdays are the first products to launch in what will be a portfolio of apps. We are also eager to innovate in scheduling, group communication, event organization, and more.

While we’re obviously biased, the team at Sunshine is awesome. We’re a mix of
long‑time colleagues (Marissa and Enrique have been working together since our youngest engineers were in kindergarten!) and those newer to the mix. As we look to grow our team, we value diversity in the classic sense as well as a diversity of opinions, values, and ideas.

Above all, everyone on our team is smart, loves to learn, and is NICE. Because life is too short to spend time working with people who aren’t nice.

Our office is in Palo Alto, California.

Software Engineer, Machine Learning

You are an amazing software engineer that loves taking new ideas and algorithms and applying them in creative ways. We are small, fast growing start-up, eager to build meaningful, everyday apps at scale. Our first product is Sunshine Contacts, but we are excited about building so much more with your help.

We believe that AI is transformational, but it hasn’t generally been applied to solve the most practical, everyday problems. We’re utilizing AI to build tools that help people spend less time on mundane tasks and more time on what they find valuable and inspiring.

We are looking for software engineers with strong backgrounds in artificial intelligence and machine learning (PhDs strongly preferred), who thrive in exploring new datasets and ambiguous problem spaces. NLP,  computer vision, deep learning, and even basic classifiers have useful applications on the everyday, practical problems we are tackling.

As an early team member, you should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy applying your experience to new domains to help find fresh ideas. If finding novel, potentially cutting edge, uses of artificial intelligence on everyday problems sounds interesting to you, please consider applying!

Requirements
    • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a related technical field
    • 4+ years of relevant software development experience with one or more of the following: language processing, image processing, pattern recognition, classification, recommendation systems, ranking systems or similar.
    • Self-starting scientific thinker who loves to experiment with new datasets and enjoys inventing new solutions in the face of ambiguities.
    • Solid software development experience with one or more general purpose programming languages
    • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras, or Pytorch
    • Solid Machine Learning background, familiar with most machine learning methods and experience working with different types of datasets and varied domains
    • Good written and spoken communication skills
